Desmopressin is an analogue of the human antidiuretic hormone, vasopressin. It mimics the action of vasopressin on the kidneys to increase the reabsorption of water thereby reducing the volume of urine produced. Desmopressin is a synthetic cyclic nonapeptide, available as the acetate.
